NEET PG Result 2026 Out: Cutoff, Rank, Scorecard & Counselling
NEET PG 2026 results have been declared, and candidates can now check their scores and ranks on the official website of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). Qualifying for the exam, however, does not mean a seat is confirmed. Seat allotment will depend on the candidate’s rank, category, quota, speciality, and college choices, and the counselling round.
Candidates should now watch for their scorecard, answer key, and counselling updates. They can also look at last year’s official MCC allotment data to get a sense of how seats were allotted across colleges and specialities.

NEET PG 2026 Qualifying Cutoff
The qualifying cutoff for each category has been given below.
Category | Minimum Qualifying Criteria | Cutoff Score |
General / EWS | 50th percentile | 262 out of 720 |
General PwBD | 45th percentile | 244 out of 720 |
SC / ST / OBC, including | 40th percentile | 226 out of 720 |
These are the minimum qualifying criteria specified by NBEMS for the courses covered by NEET PG 2026.
NEET PG 2026 Rank: What Does It Mean?
NBEMS officially refers to it as the NEET-PG 2026 Rank, though it is commonly called the AIR. It is the candidate’s overall merit position among all candidates who appeared for NEET PG 2026.
The rank is determined on the basis of the actual marks scored in the examination along with the applicable tie-breaking criteria. Where applicable, MBBS Professional Examination aggregate marks or FMGE marks submitted in the application may be used for resolving a tie. NBEMS states that these details will be verified against the original credentials during admission if they have been used to break a tie in rank.
For state quota seats, the respective State/UT prepares a separate final or category-wise merit list according to its applicable eligibility criteria, regulations and reservation policy.
Why Qualifying NEET PG Does Not Guarantee a Seat
Qualifying NEET PG is mandatory for admission to the MD, MS and PG Diploma courses covered by the exam. As per the NBEMS information bulletin, appearing in NEET PG does not give a candidate any automatic right to an MD, MS, DNB, Direct 6-year DrNB or NBEMS Diploma seat. Admission remains subject to the applicable eligibility requirements and the counselling and admission process.
NBEMS also does not conduct PG seat counselling or allotment. Its role is limited to conducting NEET PG, declaring the result, and handing the result to the designated counselling authorities. Document verification and final eligibility determination take place during counselling or admission.
How NEET PG Counselling Works: AIQ vs State Quota
NEET PG is a common exam, but counselling is not handled through a single route.
For 50% All India Quota seats contributed by the states, candidates go through MCC counselling. MCC functions under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
MCC also conducts counselling for 100% of Deemed University seats and 100% of seats in Central Universities and Central Institutes that fall under its PG counselling jurisdiction.
State quota seats and private medical college seats, other than Deemed Universities, are handled through the respective State/UT counselling authority under the applicable rules.
For Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) PG seats, MCC handles only the registration stage; the further AFMS admission process is separate. NEET PG also covers Post-MBBS DNB, Direct 6-year DrNB and NBEMS Diploma courses.
What About AIIMS PG Admissions?
AIIMS New Delhi and other AIIMS, PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER Puducherry, NIMHANS Bengaluru and SCTIMST Thiruvananthapuram are not part of centralised MD/MS admission through NEET PG. NBEMS lists these institutes separately in the information bulletin. For applicable PG courses at these Institutes of National Importance, admission is through INI-CET, conducted by AIIMS New Delhi.
How to Check Previous-Year NEET PG Allotment Ranks
Last year’s MCC allotment results can help candidates see the ranks at which different colleges and specialities were allotted. While checking the data, it is important to look at the quota, category, and counselling round as well.
These ranks should be used only as a reference. They do not indicate what the NEET PG 2026 allotment ranks will be.
For example, the table below shows a few Round 1 NEET PG 2025 allotments at Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Delhi under the same All India Quota, Open allotted category, and General candidate category.
College | PG Speciality | NEET PG 2025 Rank Allotted (Round 1) |
Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Delhi | MD Radiodiagnosis | 53 |
Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Delhi | MD General Medicine | 62 |
Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Delhi | MS General Surgery | 123 |
Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Delhi | M.D. (Obst. and Gynae)/ | 718 |
Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Delhi | MD Paediatrics | 1,230 |
Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Delhi | MS ENT | 1,265 |
These are individual Round 1 allotment examples, not final closing ranks. They simply show how ranks differed across specialities at the same college.
Candidates can use the official MCC NEET PG 2025 Round 1 final allotment result to check other colleges as well. Search the college name in the PDF, then look at the course, quota, category, and rank listed in that row.
If someone is interested in MD Paediatrics, for example, they can search the college first and then check the MD Paediatrics entries for that college.
The 2025 data is only a guide. The ranks can shift in 2026 depending on the available seats, the choices made by candidates, quota, category, and counselling round.
NEET PG 2026 Scorecard and Answer Key
NBEMS will make individual NEET PG 2026 scorecards available on its official website on or after October 1, 2026. The scorecard will remain available for download for six months from the date of issue. It will not be sent by post or email, so candidates should download it and keep a copy.
NEET PG 2026 Answer Key
The answer key will also be available on or after October 1, 2026. Each candidate can view the following details through the applicant login:
Question ID numbers
Correct answer key IDs
Response IDs marked by the candidate
Score awarded for each question according to the evaluation scheme
NEET PG 2026 was held on August 30, with a re-examination on September 5 for candidates affected by a power failure at two Jaipur centres. NBEMS states that every question from both examination papers was reviewed by faculty from the relevant speciality, and no question was found technically incorrect.
NEET PG 2026 Counselling
Registration details, the schedule, and other notices for MCC counselling will be posted on the MCC PG Medical Counselling page.
Candidates seeking state quota seats should follow the counselling authority of their respective State/UT separately. As per the NEET PG result notice, States and UTs will prepare their own final/category-wise merit lists.
What Should Candidates Do After the NEET PG 2026 Result?
A few things are worth checking before counselling begins:
Download the scorecard once it is available on or after October 1, 2026. Keep a saved copy, since it will remain available for six months from the date of issue.
Check the answer key through the applicant login. It will show the question IDs, correct answer IDs, marked responses, and marks awarded.
Follow the right counselling authority. MCC handles AIQ and other seats under its counselling process, while state quota candidates should also follow their respective State/UT authority.
Keep the same mobile number and email active. NBEMS has asked candidates to retain the contact details used in the NEET PG application for counselling.
Check the spam or junk folder too, as important emails from NBEMS or counselling authorities may land there.
Review category and PwBD details carefully. The information entered in the NEET PG application will be carried into MCC counselling and cannot be changed by MCC.
If the current cutoff is not met, keep checking official notices. The qualifying percentile was reduced during NEET PG 2025 counselling, but there is no official indication that the 2026 cutoff will be revised.
Use the 2025 allotment data only as a reference when looking at colleges and specialities. The same ranks may not repeat in 2026.
Keep documents ready: As per the NEET PG 2026 bulletin, the original internship completion certificate and proof of NMC/State Medical Council registration have to be produced at counselling/admission. The full document list will be given in the MCC and state counselling bulletins.
Conclusion
The next updates to watch are the scorecard and answer key, which NBEMS says will be available on or after October 1, 2026. Candidates who meet the current cutoff can prepare for counselling, while those below it should continue to follow official NBEMS and MCC notices for any change to the qualifying criteria. MCC will post the AIQ schedule on mcc.nic.in, while states will publish their own schedules for state quota seats.
